Florida Atlantic University Campus Report, January 13, 2006

 

Dr. Roy Levow provided the following report:

Athletic Fee:  The BOT adopted a $2 increase in athletic fee permitted for universities going to division 1-A.  Initially the student committee recommended the increase with conditions that could not be adopted including corresponding roll-back of other student fees.  The committee met again and gave direct approval with president agreeing to several requests.  At the BOT meeting students spoke against increase, including SGA President, who had voted for it in committee.

 

Budget:  Only $2M increase (enrollment growth.)  $1M for critical needs; $1M not yet allocated (including pay raises to be negotiated.)

 

Tuition:  No change from BOG approved rates.

 

Scripps:  Agreement has been reached on a second building on FAU Jupiter Campus.

 

Medical Program:  BOT approved of expansion to 4-year program from first 2-years only.

 

Strategic Planning: 

            New mission statement was adopted by BOT.

The BOT Strategic Planning Council recommending adding three goals to BOG four previously adopted.  The new goals are Computing Infrastructure, Physical Facilities, and Communications.

BOT has major strategic planning retreat next week.

 

Trying to revitalize Faculty Senate

Seeking ways to improve attendance.  Video conference between campuses will be used for future meetings.

 

Barry Kaye made a $5M donation to College of Business for a School of Insurance and Finance.
