Report on New College Activities for 2005-06

Douglas Langston, Chair of the Faculty

Provost Charlene Callahan indicated her desire to return to the faculty, so a search for a new Provost and VP for Academic Affairs was conducted.  Four finalists were interviewed on campus and Sam Savin, former Dean of Humanities and Sciences at Case Western Reserve University, was selected.  He will assume the post on July 1.

Planning for four new dorms on the campus was completed and their construction has recently begun.  In conjuction with the dorm project, a series of architectural charettes were held to revise the Campus Master Plan.  The Master Plan is now at the “90% completion stage” and early stages of construction are underway in concert with the construction of the new dorms (relocation of the tennis and basketball courts).

After sharing the New College Campus for over thirty years, USF Sarasota/Manatee is currently moving to its own campus on the Crosley Estate, just north of the New College Campus.  Students from USF Sarasota/Manatee will continue to use the Library, Fitness Facilities, and Wellness Center on the New College Campus.
