Chopra provided the following report:
Faculty Senate Issues
- The College of Arts
and Sciences at UCF was reorganized into two different colleges – College of Arts
and Humanities and the College
of Sciences. The
Faculty Senate extensively questioned the Provost on this issue at its
November 17 meeting.
- The
ad-hoc subcommittee established in August 2005 continued to work on
developing new guidelines (eligibility criteria and procedures) for the
Incentive Awards (TIP, RIA, and Scholarship of Teaching and Learning).
- A task
force on Ethics was convened to look at both student and faculty ethics
related issues.
- The
senate began looking at revised travel expense policy to bring them more
in line with federal rates.
- A
committee is studying the Student Perception of Instruction forms at UCF
with cooperation of the faculty senate.
- The
topic for UCF Quality Enhancement Program for SACS accreditation is
Information Fluency. The faculty senate was approached by the QEP team to
assist in the development and implementation of the QEP program at UCF.
- UCF
Presented its Proposal for a College
of Medicine to the
BOG in November 2005. The Faculty Senate expressed strong support for this
proposal through a resolution (see Resolution 2005-2006-2 below).
UCF BOT-UFF
Bargaining Update
A new
agreement was reached on October
3, 2005 on the salary-related Article 23 of the contract between
the UFF at UCF and the Board of Trustees. The agreement was ratified by the
faculty and then subsequently by the BOT.
The raises are to retroactive to August 2005.
UCF Faculty Senate
Resolutions
Three
Faculty Senate resolutions were passed by the Faculty Senate.
Resolution 2005-2006 – 1
TIP/SoTL (NOT RIA) Awards
Whereas, the issue has been raised to recommend decreasing the
number of new TIP and new SoTL awards by half,
Be it resolved that the Faculty Senate recommends that these new awards
continue to be awarded at their current numbers.
Resolution 2005-2006 – 2 Establish a College of Medicine
Whereas, the University
of Central Florida is preparing a
proposal to establish a College
of Medicine,
Be it resolved that the Faculty Senate strongly supports this action.
Resolution 2005-2006-3 Condolence for
Officer Mario Jenkins
Whereas, Officer Mario Jenkins gave years of
service to University
of Central Florida,
And
Whereas, Officer Mario Jenkins’ efforts assured
the safety of the UCF community,
Therefore, on behalf of the faculty of UCF, the
Faculty Senate hereby expresses its deepest sympathy to the family of Officer
Mario Jenkins and to his coworkers in their time of loss.
One resolution was passed by the Faculty Senate Steering
Committee to be forwarded to the full Faculty Senate. It was withdrawn since
the next meeting of the Faculty Senate was after the appointment of the new
Chancellor of Florida SUS System. The resolution is stated below:

2005-2005-4 BOG regarding Chancellor of the Florida State
University System
Be it resolved by the Faculty Senate of the University of Central
Florida that we unequivocally urge the Florida
Board of Governors to conduct a national search and appoint an individual with
experience, academic credentials, and nationally recognized leadership in
higher education, as Chancellor of the Florida State University System.
